one plus one is less than three

VEHICLE BURGLARIES:

Over the past 2 months, the University Police Department has caught and
arrested 3 suspects breaking into vehicles on or near our campus. We (UCPD)
would like to take this opportunity to share with you the patterns we
observed in all these cases.

PATTERN:

In these cases, the burglars committed their acts between the hours of
midnight and 3:00am. The smashing of passenger or driver side windows was
the preferred technique used to gain entry. In two cases, car stereos were
removed from the dashboard and in a third case the suspect attempted to take
CDs. In all three cases the suspects looked through the windows of multiples
cars and targeted only those vehicles with valuables that were left in plain
view.

RECOMMENDATIONS:

UCPD would like to take this opportunity to remind students, faculty and
staff of the importance of removing valuable items from their cars and/or
from plain view. If your car stereo has a removable face-plate, take it
with you when you leave. If you have a CD case or loose CDs, put them away
or take them out of the car. Consider placing loose articles in your trunk.
Finally, do not hesitate to contact the police.

Sincerely,

Chief Mike Lane and Crime Prevention Detective Jason Day
